A fairy tale world...
Fascinating kayaking route leading through three rivers of different nature, which runs almost entirely through the picturesque and the largest in Lithuania the Dzūkija National Park. True wildness of nature, small villages on the banks of rivers, many unique species of flora and fauna.
The route is 110 km, quite difficult. Daily sections from 13 to 21 km, totally 110 km. Uła (Ūla) - winds among pine forests in the deep valley with high sandy banks, crossing the Dajnawska Forest with inland dunes, many fallen trees, bends and turns. Merkys – distinguishes itself for the beauty of the banks and the cleanness of water. The river is twice wider than The Ula River, it has quite fast current. Nemunas - the biggest river in Lithuania (937 km), which flows through the valley of 1-4 km width and creates several large meanders, it has quite slow current, there are almost no shallow, hilly banks.
DZUKIJOS NATIONAL PARK It is Lithuania’s largest national park (55.900 ha). The biological diversity, the flora and fauna are unique in this territory.Here are 147 types of flora and fauna entered in to the Red book (endangered species). The villages, distinguishing for the archaic layout, old cottages and stockyards are bulging out in the thickness of pinewoods. Here you can hear the people of Dzūkija singing, and see the old handicrafts – weave, basketry, and wild-hive beekeeping. The ethnographical museum of the biggest Lithuanian village Marcinkonys tells about the lifestyle, customs, traditions, and handicraft of the Dzūkija people.
